The event has been hugely successful in previous years, with increasing numbers of PGRs and ECRs attending and much collaboration and networking taking place year on year. In 2017, the theme was ‘Futures Past: South Asia Then and Now’. In 2018, it took place at the University of Sheffield with a focus on ‘Voices through History’. In May 2019, it took place at the University of York under the title ‘South Asia: Exclusion, Dialogue, Exchange’, featuring multiple parallel panels, contributions from academic partners, and a fascinating keynote presentation from Professor Sarah Ansari. In 2021, the theme was Space, Place and Temporalities, with a keynote presentation by Professor Sujit Sivasundaram (Centre for South Asian Studies, Cambridge) entitled, Placelessness, Coercion & The Material History of Modern Colombo.
The organisers of this year’s event are: Alankrita Anand (York), Parshati Dutta (York), Sauleha Kamal (York), Pragya Roy (Sheffield) and Dr Radha Kapuria (Sheffield).
